PROFIBUS Protocol Interface

The PROFIBUS Rapid Application Protocol Driver (RAPD) is compliant to the PROFIBUS standard as defined by the PROFIBUS Nutzer Organization (PNO) and implements the FMS, FDL and DP PROFIBUS protocols. This implementation is based upon a two task system; the protocol driver and the IOXlator. The protocol driver packetizes data for transmission to/from the PLC whereas the IOXlator provides for efficient mailbox data handling between the protocol driver and the FactoryLink kernel. This implementation of the RAPD technology utilizes multiple execution threads for reads, writes and unsolicited messages (FMS only) and thereby improves system performance under any operating environment.
